Learning
Why choose us for your child’s learning?
At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.
What students learn
Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.
At our school, students can take part in special religious education (SRE) classes, depending on what’s available. These classes are delivered by approved providers.
When enrolling your child, you’ll be able to choose an option from the approved providers offered at our school. Students not attending SRE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.
You’re welcome to change your choice at any time.
For more information, visit the department’s website or contact us.
Students may exhibit potential in one or more domains including intellectual, creative, social-emotional, and physical.
Advice for parents and carers of high potential and gifted students.
Signs of High Potential
High potential and gifted children tend to:
- be very curious
-learn new ideas or skills quickly and easily
- display a good memory
- ask complex questions
- be creative enjoy thinking in complex ways
- require fewer repetitions when learning new things
- become very focused in their area of interest or passion
Children with high potential like to be challenged. If you observe your child is more advanced than their peers, in any area or domain, it is recommended that you discuss this with your child's teacher. A rapid rate of learning means these children may enjoy opportunities beyond the typical level of other children their age.

Our learning approach
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
-
real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
-
technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
-
flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
-
community connections: through excursions and local programs.
Spelling Mastery Spelling Mastery provides structured lessons to effectively and efficiently teach the spelling skills students need to become proficient readers and writers.
Research-based and classroom-proven for over 40 years, Spelling Mastery is designed to help your students become confident, life-long spellers.
Decodable Readers Australia Decodable Readers Australia is a reading program we use at school to help children learn to read with confidence. The books are carefully matched to what students are learning in phonics, so they only include sounds and letters they've already been taught.
Each level builds on the last, allowing students to practise reading in a clear, structured way. The stories are engaging and Australian-themed, helping students develop their reading skills step by step.
Heggerty In our Kindergarten classroom we use the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness program every day. In quick, engaging 10‑12 minute lessons, children develop skills like rhyming, blending, segmenting, and hearing the different sounds in words. It helps build the foundations they need for reading, spelling, and being confident with language. EaST Mathematics At our school we use the EaST (Explicit and Systematic Teaching) Mathematics Program to ensure every student builds strong, confident maths skills. It is a whole‑school approach that follows a clear explicit teaching structure, aligned with the NSW Mathematics syllabus.
- Explicit Teach Plans: New content is taught in a structured way (teacher modelling, guided practice, independent work) until students master it.
- Retrieval practice: Previously taught concepts are regularly revisited through Daily Maths Reviews to help embed learning in long‑term memory.
Differentiation and scaffolding: Lessons include support that is gradually reduced as students gain confidence. There are challenge levels so all students are engaged and supported
